This is now part of KDE since Plasma 5.11.

You cannot necessarily create or password protect folder directly by right clicking on a folder in Dolphin.

There is a 3 step process but it is dangerously secure. here is some help

  • Create a Vault using the Applet
    • It is usually part of the default panel
    • Never forget the password or you are hosed!
    • Now the folder Vaults will appear in /Home
    • Create folders inside of there.
    • Open and close it from the vault icon.
  • Linking to vaults is handy.
    • for example you want studentRecords to be encrypted.
    • Create the Vault and the studentRecords folder in the vault
    • Link to it so that it is visible from Home

ln -s path/to/real/thing nameOfLink
