MSG New Development/How to Start an MSG

  1. Meet with the newdevelopment person at the MSG
    1. You can contact them at admin@msgeducation.com or newdevelopment@msgeducation.com
    2. Get an overall feel if the MSG makes sense in the local context
  2. Decide to have a second meeting
    1. Go over in detail the pros and cons of starting an MSG.
  3. Form a team
    1. This is usually led by the person we call the champion.
      1. The champion is:
        1. A long term person in the country of consideration
        2. Well connected with people and multiple agencies
        3. someone with a vested interest in the success of the MSG
    2. The team ought to consist of several other who will help in a variety of ways.
      1. Cheering the champion on
      2. Helping with communication and practical details
      3. Aid in the recruiting process
  4. Begin looking for
    1. Staff( They will always be your most valuable and hardest to get asset)
      1. You will need
        1. Three teachers
          1. Math, Science, English
        2. One administrator
          1. Can also be a teacher at the beginning
          2. We do NOT recommend that this person is also running another school or major project.
        3. One part time IT person
          1. This is usually handled by Walt DeMoss in Kunming
    2. Location
      1. This can be any location that has
        1. three classrooms that can sit 10-20 students
        2. a comfortable living room area for up to 30 people including staff
        3. a place to eat together
          1. This can even be the classroom(s)
    3. Staff
      1. Have I covered this?
      2. Start now :)
  5. Line up the necessary resources
    1. Books
      1. You will need about one suitcase for every three students.
        1. Two large textbooks for math and science
        2. Several literature books depding on the teacher.
      2. Look for teams or visiting family of students.
    2. Computers
      1. You will need one server and two teacher/admin computers and one computer per classroom
        1. That means about 5 desktop and one server
          1. We recommend desktops as they run longer and are less easily stolen
